OKAY, so I tend to think of introversion and extroversion as the source of a person’s energy. While it CAN manifest as extroverted = outgoing and introverted = solitary, how social you are isn’t really what makes you intro/extroverted. An extroverted person derives their energy from their environment - what’s happening around them, people, events. We already know that Nico wasn’t always the type to keep to himself, and I tend to think of Titan’s Curse!Nico as his natural state. He’s characterized as easily excitable, super curious, always talking and asking questions and I think Nico is at his happiest, his most energized, when he’s around other people. His self-imposed isolation is his coping mechanism after the death of his sister, who was pretty much his only support system growing up. It is a reaction to a traumatic event - it is not the way he naturally engages with his environment. I think the biggest tell of his extroversion for me is the simple fact that Nico is miserable when he’s alone, and he seeks out comfort in small physical interactions (with Hazel, the only person he currently feels close enough to to seek them out with) - holding hands, kisses on the cheek. He wants to be alone to avoid getting hurt - not because he prefers to be alone.
I think Leo’s introversion speaks for itself - I’ve always felt that Leo is at his best, his most genuine, when he’s alone and working on a piece of machinery. He can isolate himself for days on end and tinker with engineering issues and emerge fully recharged afterwards. Leo doesn’t really take in or think about the people around him much, and frankly his interactions with them are often one-sided, with him cracking a joke and them playing it off. All of his energy comes from himself. I’m an introverted person myself and I can be perfectly happy not leaving my room for weeks as long as I have a project to immerse myself in - I feel like Leo is pretty much the same.

below i have mapped out the reason why using blobs of color for maximum comprehensibility. i am using only sexuality, in terms of straightness and not….straightness to keep things simple and understandable. i do not delve into any other issues but they ARE important.
this represents the sexuality status of every character in the Percy Jackson series (mentioned or otherwise, as the fandom is extremely heteronormative and every character will be thought of as straight even if their sexuality isn’t expressly mentioned) in books: TLT, SoM, TTC, TBotL, TLO, TLH, SoN, and MoA.
this is what happened in HoH:
see that little yellow blob? that’s nico after HoH. he’s actually queer representation in not only the Percy Jackson series, but in all of kids lit. that’s big, despite Rick’s crappy execution.
now look what happens when we take some canonically “”straight”” characters and make them not-straight:
wow better but not great (also keeping in mind that this is FANDOM at work, not the author) as this does only delve in sexuality. notice, still, how most of the characters are still straight, or perceived to be straight. however, more actual queer people have fictional peeps that are just like them. yay!
now look what happened when we take all those fandom queer ships away, and also take little canon queer nico and decide to lol make him as straight as an arrow with all the girls!:
people who take nico and make him straight for their ships are basically—NAY, they are coming out, to every queer person in this fandom and elsewhere, with the opinion that their feels about ships are more important than queer inclusion in this fandom. when they say “oh but it’s fandom and everything is okay—” they are coming from a place of privilege in-where they are represented and they don’t know how it feels to not be represented, because no real queer person is going to take the only canonically queer character in their fandom, look at him/her/them and go “lol let’s make them cishet”.
the tl;dr version: make Nico straight you take away the only queer canon representation this fandom has; make a few more characters queer in fandom SO FUCKING WHAT THERE’S STILL 2390856203650592 OTHER STRAIGHT CHARACTERS INCLUDING CANON FOR THE FANDOM TO MOON OVER.
I’m all for equal rights but isn’t it kind of not equal rights to be saying that it’s okay to make the straight people gay but not okay to make the gay people straight? Equal means equal not let’s make more gay and less straight because there’s more straight people so it doesn’t matter? Don’t get mad at people who are making the cannon gay character straight then be like hey it’s fine to make the cannon straight character gay. Everyone is awesome so don’t make straight people feel inferior because they’re the majority. Be mad at the author for not including more gay characters so everyone can have their cannon sexual orientation. But even if there were more gay characters some people would still ship them with the opposite sex and that’s okay because it’s their opinion just like shipping two cannon straight people together and shipping a cannon gay person with a cannon straight person. Equality my friend.
I can’t believe that people are only not ignoring this fandom when they talk about nico being gay.
I can’t believe Tumblr user patemichrina thinks they are making a lick of sense.
my favourite part is: “don’t make straight people feel inferior because they’re the majority” aahh
BUT WHAT ABOUT THE STRAIGHT PEOPLE!1!!!1!1!!1/1/
Listen up y’all, there is nothing wrong with make a homo ship hetero. You’re not changing the actual character and what the author intended and people who don’t like it can simply ignore the art/fan fics because that’s not cool in the loving fandom I’d like to believe we have here. Besides, those ships are AUs for a reason…
Listen up y’all, it’s really freakin’ insulting to the queer community when you take the only queer character over dozens of cishet characters in order to ship him in your cishetero ships. There’s nothing loving about a fandom who refuses to acknowledge and actively ignores the sexuality of the only queer character because it gets in the way of their ‘feels’.
I must say that I’ve got some words written as tags, which means that I wrote something like the texts above, but as tags lol this sounds so obvious but anyway. you might check them out if you want to
oh. I am sorry.
I’ve seen this word around A LOT and I just assumed it was acceptable enough for me to use as well. This word has a lot of different meanings in Russian, and one of it was homosexual, so I thought it was just a normal word. I didn’t know it could be interpreted as an insult, I’m sorry.
